Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Adults and Young People

WHAT IS CBT THERAPY?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking treatment proven to be effective with a range of mental health problems. It’s practical, present-focused approach and involves teamwork between yourself and your therapist to explore what is keeping problems going and to look for ways to manage the way you feel. Our treatments can vary greatly, here are some examples of how we can help:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Trauma-focused CBT

This treatment is specialised for survivors of trauma. Trauma-focused CBT works by focusing on managing the memories of the trauma so that you can help your brain adjust to what has happened. This has been shown to help reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Schema-focused CBT

Here we explore the rules and assumptions governing the way we think and behave. Schema-focused CBT looks at where these behaviours come from and the impact on day-to-day experiences. Understanding our rules and assumptions, managing them, and adjusting them so that they are helpful and adaptive can help to resolve emotional problems

Compassion-Focused CBT

Compassion-focused CBT explores defensive coping mechanisms from childhood and their impact on our strategies for coping with day-to-day stress.

Mindfulness-based CBT

Mindfulness-based CBT uses mindfulness meditation techniques to develop the ability to have increased awareness of our emotional state and better emotional regulation.

Medico-legal assessments

Dr Thrasher is an expert witness for legal companies specialising in personal injury and Medico-legal assessments and reporting, she can assess and have an opinion on reactions to traumatic events.

Sometimes, you might feel that something is not quite right, but might not be able to put your finger on it. Our experienced therapists are trained to be able to help you identify what is causing the trouble.
