Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about having CBT and how we work. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

SESSIONS

How many sessions will I need?

Your therapist will be able to give you a better idea of this after your initial assessment. However, most clients have between 6-12 sessions.

How long are sessions?

Sessions last 50 minutes.

How often will I have sessions?

We recommend having sessions weekly or fortnightly.

Do you have a waiting list?

This varies. If you fill out an online enquiry form, the team will be able to tell you more about current availability.

Does it matter where I live?

No. All sessions are held remotely, so as long as you have access to a phone or online device, you will be able to have sessions wherever you live.

Do you see children?

We see anyone over the age of 16.

Can someone be with me in my session?

Yes. You are welcome to have a friend or relative with you in any or all of your sessions.

How do I know if I have the right therapist?

You need to feel super comfortable with your therapist, and your initial assessment appointment will give you a good idea whether you feel you can work together.

What if I don’t find CBT helpful?

There is no obligation to have a set number of sessions. You are free to stop sessions at any time. Any sessions you have in credit will be refunded.

Can I have face-to-face sessions?

Having found online sessions to be both effective and popular, we are not offering face-to-face sessions.

Are online sessions as good as in-person sessions?

Yes! Lots of studies as well as clinical experience have shown remote sessions to be as effective as in-person treatment. In fact, most of our clients find remote sessions to be more convenient as they fit around busy schedules.

I don’t know if I can use videoconferencing.

That’s ok! If you have any questions or queries, please just let us know. One of our friendly team will be happy to talk you through how to use videoconferencing or even have a trial run with you, so you feel comfortable. Alternatively, you can have your sessions via telephone if this feels easier for you.

I haven’t received a link for my session.

Don’t worry, you will receive a link for your session on the day, shortly before it is due to start. If you still haven’t received a link, please feel free to contact us at the office on 01608 737614.

FEES

I have health insurance. Can I use this to pay for sessions?

If you have health insurance, session fees will need to be paid upfront to CBT Networks and you will need to check with your health insurance provider directly if these are recoverable.

Can I pay through my BUPA insurance policy?

We are no longer registered with BUPA. Unfortunately, BUPA operates a ‘capping’ policy with its registered clinicians, irrespective of experience, location, or inflation. This means that many BUPA therapists operate at a 50-60% reduction of their fees. This is no longer feasible for CBT Networks. Sadly, BUPA also do not allow their members to ‘top up’ by paying the difference between a clinician’s fees and the amount BUPA are willing to fund for sessions.
However, if you are a BUPA member and able to fund your own treatment, you are welcome to book sessions with us.

If I don’t use all my prepaid sessions, will I get a refund?

Absolutely. You will be refunded whatever you don’t use. On occasion, some clients like to keep a session or two ‘in the bank’ to use for follow-up. However, this is completely down to each client.

Why are fees for adults and young people different?

Assessments and treatment for young people take more time and involve collaborating with parents or guardians. This is reflected in the price.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Are my sessions confidential?

Yes. All your information and therapy notes will be kept in the strictest confidence. If we feel it is necessary to contact your GP or other health professional, we will do so only after you have given us your permission. Your therapist will also ensure that nothing you say can be overheard on their end of your videocall or telephone call.

Does my GP need to know I’m having sessions?

No. You can tell us whether you would like to keep your GP updated with your progress or not.
